Summary

Chemical Constituents from Jatropha gossypiifolia L.

Jatropha gossypiifolia L. (Euphorbiaceae) is used in traditional medicine with a wide range of pharmacological activities. From ethyl acetate extract of Jatropha gossypiifolia leaves and stem, five compounds were isolated by chromatographic techniques. Their chemical structures were identified as acetyl aleuritolic acid (1), ergosterol peroxide (2), altissimanin B (3), 3β,12-dihydroxy-13-methylpodocarpane-8,11,13-triene (4) and gossweilone (5) by NMR, MS spectroscopic data and comparison with the reported literature. Compounds 1-2 and 4-5 were isolated from J. gossypiifolia for the first time.

Keywords: Jatropha gossypiifolia, Triterpene, Sterol, Nor-diterpene.
