Summary
HPLC Analysis of Potential Raw Materials for Chondroitin Extraction in Vietnam
The aim of this study was to analyze quantitatively potential raw materials which can be used for large-scale production of chondroitin sulfate in Vietnam. Studied materials included catfish bone and cartilage (Pangasius sp., sample C), chicken bone and cartilage (sample G) and chicken cartilage only (sample SG). Chondroitin sulfate was extracted from the materials by using enzymatic hydrolysis method. The HPLC quantitative analysis revealed the content of chondroitin sulfate in samples C, G, and SG were 0.64% ; 2.38% ; 14.49%, respectively. Despite of the lowest content of chondroitin, sample C may be a promising potential material for chondroitin production thanks to their huge availability as low-price by-products of the developed catfish farming industry in Vietnam.
