Summary
Hypouricemia Effect of Morinda citrifolia L. Fruit Extract
in Potassium Oxonate Induced Hyperuricemic Mice
Uric acid is the metabolic end product of purine metabolism in humans. Excess uric acid is regarded to be risk factor in gout, renal diseases, cardiovascular diseases. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of Morinda citrifolia L. fruit extract on blood uric acid levels in potassium oxonate induced hyperuricemic mice model. The result showed that hyperuricemia was induced by intraperitoneal injection 300 mg/kg potassium oxonate in mice at 2 hour after the first dose. The high blood uric acid level was maintained by intraperitoneal injection 150 mg/kg potassium oxonate for 15 day. Morinda citrifolia L. fruit extract at dose 1000 mg/kg and 500 mg/kg, oral administration, had hypouricemia effects after 1 hour, 7 day and 15 day.
