Summary
Sclerotium rolfsii associated with Atractyloides macrocephala Koidz. and initial study on some control measures
There are a number of diseases associated with Atractyloides macrocephala Koidz. cultivated for the provision of medicinal materials and seeds. Stem base root caused by Sclerotium rolfsii was found to be the most devastating disease. Sclerotium rolfsii isolated from A. macrocephala grows best on PGA medium with the most sclerotia produced at pH = 6. Sclerotium rolfsii usually develops well and produces the most sclerotia at 300C. However, Sclerotium rolfsii isolated from A. macrocephala is able to develop well at higher temperatures, from 30 - 35oC.
Trichoderma viride, a biological product, can inhibit the growth of S. rolfsii with 85.49% efficacy. Trichoderma viride can be applied to control this fungus in the field. Sclerotium rolfsii can also be killed using Ridomil 0.05% with 100% efficacy after 3 days of growth.
