Summary

Pharmacognostic Study of Apium graveolens L. Seeds

The Celery (Apium graveolens L.) belongs to family Apiaceae. It was cultivated through out of Vietnam as a vegetable. Celery seeds are used as a herbal medicine because of many important biological activities such as antihypertensive, anti-inflammatory, anticancer, antibiotic effects. The objective of current study was to carry out the pharmacognostic evaluation of celery seeds including the microscopical characteristics, moisture content, ethanol soluble extractive, total ash, phytochemical constituents and quantitative determination of total flavonoid. Various pharmacognostic parameters described in this study were used in identification and standardization of Celery seeds in the future.
