Two Ellagic Acid Derivatives from the Stems of Melastoma candidum D.Don

A phytochemical fractionation of the ethanol extract of Melastoma candidum D.Don stems led to the isolation of two  ellagic acid derivatives: ellagic acid 3,3′- dimethoxy 4′-O-α-L-rhamnopyranoside (1) and ellagic acid 3,3′,4-trimethoxy 4′-O-α-L-rhamnopyranoside (2). Their structures were elucidated by extensive spectroscopic methods. All the compounds were isolated for the first time from Melastoma spp.
