Summary
Hepatoprotective Effects of a Combined Formula from Extracts of Phyllanthus amarus, Adenosma bracteosum, Centella asiatica and Curcuma longa
Hepatoprotective effects of a formula combined from extracts of Phyllanthus amarus, Adenosma bracteosum, Centella asiatica and Curcuma longa were studied on carbon tetrachloride-induced hepatotoxicity. The results showed that the combined formula from extracts of Phyllanthus amarus (100 mg), Adenosma bracteosum (80 mg), Centella asiatica (40 mg) and Curcuma longa (30 mg) at the doses of 0.5- 1g/kg decreased carbon tetrachloride-induced increase of alanine aminotransferase (ALT), and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) activity in plasma and malonyl dialdehyde (MDA) contents in liver. These findings suggested that the formula might produce hepatoprotective effect via antioxidant mechanism.
Key words: Phyllanthus amarus, Adenosma bracteosum, Centella asiatica, Curcuma longa, carbon tetrachloride, transaminase, malonyl dialdehyde.
