Using GIS Technology on Building Database of Threatened Medicinal Plants for Conservation Work in Thai Nguyen Province
Information technology, which is increasingly developing and being applied to all areas of life, including geographic information systems (GIS) and global positioning system (GPS) have been used in many countries around the world for research and application of biodiversity conservation. In Vienam, GPS and GIS technologies are also widely used in studies of biodiversity. Along with the socio – economic development, the decline in biodiversity also occur, especially for threatened medicinal plants. The flora in Thai Nguyen is plentiful and varied. However, natural medicinal sources here are in danger of running out due to many different causes. To assist in creating a database of scientific information for research and conservation of medicinal plant species in Thai Nguyen province, we have performed the sampling and GIS applications for building database and mapping the status of 24 species of threatened medicinal plants in Thai Nguyen province.
