Summary
Effect of a Diterpene Lactone Extracted from Andrographis paniculata (Burm.f.) Nees. on Mice Reproductiveness
A diterpene lactone (andrographolide) extracted from Andrographis paniculata (Burm.f.) Nees. leaves has been evaluated for effects on reproductiveness of male or female mice at the oral doses of 50mg/kg and 200mg/kg body weight. The results showed that it did not cause unusual reproductive toxicity when the parent mice were administered for 15 or 30 days at both doses. Moreover, the born F1 and F2 generation mice did not shown any abnormal changes of body weight, conception ability and the sexual ratio. When taken for 15 days, it increased the sensitivity of conception and could cause abortion in the F1 generation female mice compared to the parent mice. The implantation was delayed and the ratio of pregnant mice of the F1 generation was reduced when the parent mice taken the sample for 30 days at both doses.
