Summary

Hepatoprotective and Anti-Inflammatory Effects of the Aqueous Extract from Chloranthus japonicus Sieb.

Chloranthus japonicus Sieb. (CJ) has been used as a medicine for a long time. Our previous study has proved the hepatoprotective, anti-inflammatory effects of the aerial parts of Chloranthus japonicus Sieb. extract in experimental animals. In this study, the hepatoprotective and anti-inflammatory effects of the underground parts of the CJ water extract was continued. The results showed that 4.0 and 12.0 g/kg of the CJ water extract showed the hepatoprotective effect on a paracetamol-induced liver injury model. It also exhibited a chronic anti-inflammatory effect on amiant-induced granuloma in mice. At the doses of 2.8 and 8.4 g/kg, the CJ water extract did not show the acute anti-inflammatory effect on carrageenan-induced paw edema and carrageenan/formaldehyde-induced peritonitis in rats.
