Sen (Nelumbo nucifera Gaertn.) thuộc họ Nelumbonaceae được trồng rộng rãi và sử dụng làm thức ăn ở Ấn độ và các nước Đông Á, trong đó có Việt Nam. Lá sen đã được dùng trong điều trị béo phì ở Việt Nam và Trung Quốc. Mục đích của nghiên cứu này nhằm đánh giá ảnh hưởng của cao chiết từ lá sen đến sự giảm tích tụ lipid trong tế bào ung thư gan HepG2. Tế bào này được ủ với acid oleic trong sự kết hợp có (hoặc không) cao chiết nước, cao chiết cồn hoặc alcaloid tổng từ lá sen và xác định sự tích tụ lipid bằng phương pháp nhuộm oil red O. Fenofibrat được dùng làm đối chứng dương trong thí nghiệm. Kết quả cho thấy cao chiết cồn và alcaloid tổng của lá sen đều có tác dụng làm giảm sự tích tụ lipid so với đối chứng âm trong khi đó cao chiết nước không thể hiện tác dụng ức chế sự tích tụ lipid trong tế bào HepG2.

Summary
Study on Effect of Nelumbo nucifera Gaertn. Leaves on Oleic Acid-induced Lipid Accumulation in HepG2 Cells
Nelumbo nucifera Gaertn. belong to Nelumbonaceae family, has been widely cultivated and used as a food and medicine in India and Eastern  Asia, including Vietnam, China, Japan, Thailand, and Korea. The leaf of Nelumbo nucifera Gaertn. has recently been used to treat obesity in Vietnam and China. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of the Nelumbo nucifera Gaertn. leaf extracts reducing lipid accumulation in hepatic cells (HepG2). HepG2 cells were treated with oleic acid containing with or without aqueous extract, ethanol extract or total alkaloid of Nelumbo nucifera Gaertn. leaf to observe the lipid accumulation by Oil Red O stain. Fenofibrate was used as a positive control. The results showed that both ethanol extract and total alkaloid of Nelumbo nucifera Gaertn. leaf suppressed oleic acid-induced lipid accumulation in HepG2 cells. Aqueous extract did not show any activity in oleic acid-induced lipid accumulation in HepG2 cells. Based on these results, it can be suggested that the leaf of Nelumbo nucifera Gaertn. inhibited lipid accumulation in hepatic cells.
