HPLC Quantitative Determination of Majonoside-R2 in

Vietnamese Ginseng

Majonoside-R2 (MR2) is the major saponin revealed in the underground part of Vietnamese ginseng (Panax vietnamensis Ha et Grushv.). This ocotillol – type saponin  having no UV absorption was detected by using the refractive index detector. After being extracted from the underground part and purified with Diaion HP-20 resin, the methanol extract containing MR2 was analysed by using an HPLC system with Supelcosil LC – 18 column and acetonitrile – water mixture (26:74) as mobile phase. The result of this study showed that the content of MR2 in the underground part of Panax vietnamensis was 5.31 ± 0.11%.
