\n\t\tStudy of Influences of the Antimalarial Combined Drug Piperaquine plus Dihydroartemisinin on Morphological changes of Rabbit Livers and Kidney

\n\t

\n\t\tThis study was conducted at National Institute of Malariology, Parasitology and Entomology and Departement of pathologic anatomy, Hanoi Medical University, between July and October, 2005. The sub - chronic toxicity of the antimalarial combined drug (320 mg piperaquine plus 40 mg dihydroartemisinin (PQP-DHA), made with the materials produced by Institute of chemistry) in rabbits was investigated. Rabbits were treated daily by oral route with PQP-DHA at the dose regimens of 64 and 100 mg/kg per day for 28 consecutive days. The combined drug effects on morphology of rabbit liver and kidney were assessed during and 15-days after  drug administration. The results showed that:

\n\t

\n\t\tAt the PQP-DHA  dose regimen of 64 mg/kg per day for 28 consecutive days, liver cells had no necrosis and degeneration, liver textures were normal and kidney tissues morphology did not  change.

\n\t

\n\t\tWith 100 mg/kg per day for 28 consecutive days of PQP-DHA, some rabbit  hepatic cells had a mild degeneration. 15 – days after  interrupting  the drug, liver cells had been in normal texture. There were no abnormal changes in rabbit kidney tissues.

\n\t

\n\t\tThe combination did not affect  rabbit  liver and kidney tissues at the two regimen doses of 64 and 100 mg/kg per day for 28 consecutive days.
