Summary
Study of Experimental Anti-Inflammatory Effect
of Total Saponin from Ophiopogon confertifolius
The total saponin extract from Ophiopogon confertifolius (OC) roots in doses of 15mg and 45mg per kg body weight provoked acute anti-inflammatory effect through inhibiting carrageenin induced rat paw edema, decreasing volume, protein content and leukocyte count of carrageenin + formaldehyde induced peritoneal exsudation as compared with the control group. The liquid total saponin extract of Ophiopogon confertifolius (OC) root in doses of 27mg and 81mg per kg had a chronic anti-inflammatory effect. Anti-inflammatory effect is equivalent to that of prednisolon in the dose 5 mg/kg and indomethacin 25 mg/kg.
