Summary
Triterpenoids and Benzoic Acid Derivatives from the Flowers of Syzygium cumini
From the flowers of Syzygium cumini (L.) Skeels, twelve known compounds (seven triterpenoids and five benzoic acid derivatives) were isolated, including friedelin (1), epifriedelanol (2), ursolic acid (3), corosolic acid (4), arjunolic acid (5), lupeol (6), betulinic acid (7), gallic acid (8), 3,5-dihydroxy-4-methoxybenzoic acid (9), syringic acid (10), protocatechuic acid (11), and isovanillic acid (12). The structures of the isolates were determined by spectroscopic analyses including MS and NMR data. Among them, compounds 4-6, 9, and 11 were first isolated from the flowers of S. cumini. Also, this is the first report of the chemical constituents from S. cumini in Vietnam.
