Two Eudesmene-Type Sesquiterpenes Isolated from Cyperus rotundus

A phytochemical investigation of the methanol extract of root of Cyperus rotundus led to the isolation of two eudesmene-type sesquiterpenes. By means of the spectroscopic methods including ESI-MS and 1D-NMR, the isolated compounds were determined to be 1β,4α-dihydroxyeudesman-11-ene (1) and 1β,4β-dihydroxyeudesman -11-ene  (2). Compound 2 was isolated for the first time from the genus Cyperus.
