Study of Polygonum odoratum Lour. Oil
in South Vietnam
Essential oils of Polygonum odoratum Lour. (Polygonaceae) in the south of Vietnam isolated by hydrodistillation under conventional heating (HDCH) or microwave irradiation (HDMI) have been studied. The microwave irradiation gave the same content (0,1005% in 65 min) but in a shorter time to compare with the conventional heating (0,1075% in 4 h). Among all parts of the plant, the leaf had the highest oil content, and eight-weeks old plant material was found richest in oil content. Decanal (13-20%) and dodecanal (45-52%) were the main constituents. Physical, chemical and antibacterial properties of the oil products obtained by both methods were also mentioned.
