Simultaneous Quantitative Analysis of Major Saponins
in Vietnamese Ginseng by HPLC
Vietnamse ginseng (VG) Panax vietnamensis Ha et Grushv. has been used in Vietnam for treatment of many serious diseases and for enhancement of physical strength as Panax ginseng (PG). The aim of our study was to determine simultaneously ginsenoside Rg1, Rd, Rb1 and majonoside- R2 in total saponins of Panax vietnamensis.
The analytical method has been validated for specificity; the injection precision (repeatability) was found < 2.7%; the calibration curve of each saponin has a correlation coefficient close to 1; the recovery rate was in the range of 97 - 103%; LOD (0.61 - 1.04 ppm) for G-Rg1, G-Rb1, G-Rd and 45.5 ppm for M-R2. The result showed that the contents of G-Rg1, G-Rb1, G-Rd and M-R2 in total saponins of Vietnamese ginseng were: 162.7 ± 3 µg/mg; 168.6 ± 3 µg/mg; 106.6 ± 1.9 µg/mg and 305.1 ± 5.7 µg/mg, respectively.
A simple, reliable HPLC-PDA analytical method has been developed and found to be suitable for simultaneous qualitative and quantitative determination of major saponins in Vietnamese ginseng and for applying quantitative determination in total saponins of Vietnamese ginseng.
