\n\tSummary
\n\tRecent study on Hericium erinaceum (Bull.ex Fr.) Pers.
\n\tHericium erinaceum was studied on botanical morphology, phytochemistry and antioxidant activity. The content of microelements, i.e. calcium, phosphorus, iron and copper were high in Hericium erinaceum. The necessary amino acids and fatty acids such as acid palmitic, acid oleic, acid linoleic were also identified, suggesting the nutritional value of Hericium erinaceum. Methanol extract had free radical scavenging activity stronger than other extracts in DPPH test. Moreover, in vivo study demonstrated that methanol extract from Hericium erinaceum had no acute toxicity per os at the maximum dose of 40 g extract/kg (equivalent to 112 g dried powder/kg) and it showed protective effect on oxidative stress-induced tissue damage via inhibition of lipid peroxidation.
\n\tKey words: Hericium erinaceum, DPPH test, oral acute toxicity, oxidative stress-induced tissue damage, lipid peroxidation.
