Study on Pharmacological Effects of Panax stipuleanatus Tsai et Feng, Araliaceae
Panax stipuleanatus has been discovered in Sapa-Lao Cai Province and till now there is no report about pharmacological effects of this plant. The present study has been focused on some typical pharmacological effects of Araliaceae family such as: antioxidant activity, invigorating effect and antistress effect. In vitro antioxidant activity of total saponin and ethanol extract of Panax stipuleanatus was investigated by using malonyl dialdehyde (MDA) test. The results showed that total saponin as well as trolox (a water-soluble analogue of vitamin E) produced anti-lipid peroxidative effect in MDA test. On the other hand, ethanol extract at the doses of 44-176 mg/kg exhibited the antistress effect on social isolated stress-induced decrease in pentobarbital sleeping time. However, ethanol extract had no invigorating effect in mouse swimming test.
