Study on the Biological Activity of Compounds Isolated from Wikstroemia indica C. A. Mey., (Thymeleaceae) of Vietnam

Fractionation of the dichloromethane extract of the stem-bark of Wikstroemia indica has resulted in the isolation of 4 compounds, tricin (1), (+)-lariciresinol (2), (-)-secoisolariciresinol (3) and daphnoretin (4). The structures of these compounds were determined using spectroscopic methods.

These compounds were investigated for antimicrobial, anti-HIV, antioxidant and cytotoxic  activities. It was found that compounds 1, 2, 3, 4 have antimicrobial activity but none of them showed cytotoxic and antioxidant activity. On the other hand, compound 4 showed anti- HIV activity.
