Hepatoprotective Effect of Centhionin Soft Gelatin Capsules

Centhionin is an herbal drug produced by F.T. Pharma, which contains 40 mg of Cynara scolymus extract and 300 mg of Centella asiatica extract. Hepatoprotective effect of Centhionin was studied on two models: carbon tetrachloride-induced hepatotoxicity and isoniazid and rifampicin-induced hepatotoxicity. The results showed that Centhionin at the doses of 1-2 capsules/kg reduced carbon tetrachloride-induced increase of alanine aminotransferase (GPT), aspartate aminotransferase (GOT) and malonyl dialdehyde (MDA) contents. In the same way, Centhionin also ameliorated antituberculosis drugs-induced increase of alanine aminotransferase (GPT), aspartate aminotransferase (GOT) and malonyl dialdehyde (MDA) contents. These findings suggested that Centhionin might produce hepatoprotective effect via antioxidant mechanism.
