Acute and 30 Days Subchronic Toxicity of Alendronate
Alendronate is a synthetic drug that belongs to biphosphonate group. Recently, alendronate was synthesized at Department of Phytochemistry – NIMM. In this study, we estimated the acute toxicity (LD50) on mice and sub-chronic toxicity (30 days) on rabbit of this drug. The results show that LD50 of alendronate is 1,45 g/kg which demonstrated alendronate is very low toxic when used for human at dose of 10 mg/day. Alendronate at doses of 0,6 mg and 6,0 mg/kg body weight did not affect to neither biochemistry and hematology index nor histology of liver and kidney in sub-chronic toxicity test. These results demonstrated that this alendronate can be used for further study.
