Isolation and Quantitative Analysis of Ostruthin
in the Medicinal Plant Paramignya trimera Collected in Vietnam
A phytochemical study on the roots and stems of the medicinal plant Paramignya trimera collected in Vietnam resulted in the isolation of a major constituent, ostruthin, which was identified on the basis of physicochemical and spectroscopic analyses. A rapid and sensitive HPLC method with UV detection was developed for the analytical quantification of ostruthin in roots and stems of Paramignya trimera. Assay was conducted using a Versitep C18 column (5 µm, 4.6×250 mm) under isocratic elution with water - acetonitril (25:75) at flow rate of 0,7 ml/min and detected using photodiode array at 340 nm. The yield of ostruthin in different parts of collected samples ranges from 0.008 to 5.091%. Of these, the root bark showed significant higher ostruthin content than other parts.
