Antioxidative Activities of Alocasia macrorhiza

In recent years, a great number of studies have investigated the potential role of reactive oxygen species in inflammatory diseases.Alocassia had been studied as a beneficial agent for wound healing in the past and up to now we are continuing studies the remarkable antioxidant effect of extract from Alocasia macrorhiza (at  low dose) with evidiences obtained from some antioxidant test: Inhibition of anion superoxyd (O2.-), 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH)production. We also study the inhibition of lipid peroxidation in liver homogenate of Alocasias. The Oxidation was caused in liver cell suspestion by a mixture of ascorbic acid and FeCl2. The lipid peroxidation was monitore by measuring the MDA created in the reaction. The result showed that the extraction from Alocasia macrorhiza inhibited lipid peroxidation in a concentration – dependent manner. Besides it, we sudy the effect of flavonoid extracted from the plant on the cell’s response to oxidative damaged by hypoxanthin-xanthinoxidase. Fibrroblast was choiced for this testing. The colorimetic assay was used to assess cell damage and the protective effect of the extract against oxidative damage. With concentration of flavonoid at 2,5 to 250mcg/ml completely protected fibroblasts againsts HX/XO- induced damaged (p<0,01).  This result suggested that the application of Alocasia macrorhizza as antioxidant agent contribute to anti-oxidatives activities and wound healing.
