Summary

Alkaloids and Flavonoids from Lycopodiella cernua

Using combined various chromatography separation methods, six compounds (1 - 6) were isolated from the whole plants of Lycopodiella cernua, including three alkaloids cernuine (1), lycocernuine (2), cermizine C N-oxide (3) and three flavonoid glycosides apigenin-4'-O-(2''-O-p-coumaroyl)-β-D-glucopyranoside (4), apigenin-4'-O-(6''-O-p-trans-coumaroyl)-β-D-glucopyranoside (5), and apigenin-4'-O-(2'',6''-di-O-trans-p-coumaroyl)-β-D-glucopyranoside (6). Their structures were elucidated using 1D and 2D-NMR experiments and comparison with those reported in the literature. All the compounds showed weak inhibitory effects on NO production in LPS-stimulated BV2 microglial cells, with IC50 values ranging from 30.1 ± 1.5 to 68.6 ± 3.4 µM. Compound 5 also showed weak cytotoxic activity against three human cancer cell lines: MCF-7 (breast carcinoma), HepG2 (hepatocarcinoma), and SK-Mel2 (melanoma).

Keywords: Lycopodiella cernua, Alkaloid, Cernuin, Flavonoid glycoside, Apigenin glycoside.
