Summary

Anti-Hypertensive Effects of Flavonoid-Enriched Extract from Diospyros kaki L.f. Leaves

on Reno-Vascular Hypertensive Rats

Current study designed to investigate the anti-hypertensive effect of flavonoid-enriched extract from Diospyros kaki L.f. leaves (DKF) on renovascular hypertensive rats. The Wistar rats were induced hypertension by narrowing the left renal artery using 2 kidney-1 clip experimental model of renovascular hypertension (2K1C). The reno-hypertensive rats were daily treated with DKF (50 and 100 mg/kg of body weight; p.o.) or captopril (20 mg/kg of body weight; p.o.), a reference drug for 4 weeks. The blood pressure and heart rate were performed to assess the anti-hypertensive effect of DKF for every 2 weeks. The daily administration of DKF dose-dependently reduced the systolic and diastolic blood pressures in renovascular hypertensive rats. There were no significant changes observed in heart rate. Our results demonstrated that DKF exhibits anti-hypertensive effects on reno-hypertensive rat and that the DKF treatment may be an useful herbal therapy for the management of hypertension.
