ANTI-HYPERTENSIVE EFFECTS OF LEEA RUBRA EXTRACT
ON RENO-VASCULAR HYPERTENSIVE RATS

Anti-Hypertensive Effects of Leea rubra Extract on Reno-Vascular Hypertensive Rats
This study was conducted to evaluate the anti-hypertensive effect of Leea rubra (LR) extract on reno-vascular hypertensive rats. The Wistar rats were induced hypertensive by narrowing the left renal artery using 2 kidney-1 clip experimental model of renovascular hypertension (2K1C). The hypertensive rats were treated with LR aqueous extract at the daily dose of 100 and 300 mg/kg of body weight. The blood pressure and heart rate of rats were determined at 0, 2 and 4 weeks after the drug administration. The daily administration of LR extract at doses of 300 mg/kg for 2 - 4 weeks reduced the systolic and diastolic blood pressures in renovascular hypertensive rats without affecting the heart rate. Our results demonstrated that LR aqueous extract exhibits anti-hypertensive effects in the 2K1C rat model of renovascular hypertension. Thus, LR aqueous extract may be beneficial for the treatment of hypertension.
