Summary

Anti-hyperlipidemic Effect of Processed Vietnamese Ginseng

The hypolipidemic effect of processed Vietnam ginseng was studied on the tyloxapol-induced hyperlipidemic model in Swiss mice. Korean Red Ginseng extract (KRGE) and atorvastatin were used as reference drugs. The results showed that processed Vietnam ginseng extract (VGE) at the oral doses of 100 mg/kg and 200 mg/kg reduced elevated triglycerides and total cholesterol in tyloxapol-induced hyperlipidemic mice. The hypocholesterolemic effect of VGE was dose-dependent and similar to atorvastatin and KRGE. The reduced effect of VGE on plasma triglycerides was better than KRGE at the same dose of 200 mg/kg. The results revealed that HMG-CoA reductase inhibitory activity may be one of the mechanisms involved in the hypolipidemic effect of processed Vietnam ginseng.
