Summary
Chemical Constituents from the Rhizomes of Adenia cardiophylla (Mast.) Engl.
Adenia cardiophylla is a species in the genus Adenia in the Passifloraceae family. The plant’s rhizomes have a slightly sweet taste, and they have been used in ethnic medicine in An Giang province to treat lung inflammatory diseases. Five compounds were isolated and identified as 2,3-epoxydeca-4,6,8-triyn-1-ol (1), vanillic acid (2), demethoxypinoresinol (3), succinic acid (4), a mixture of deidaclin (5a) and tetraphyllin A (5b) from the rhizomes of Adenia cardiophylla. Their structures were determined by using spectroscopic methods (MS, 1D, and 2D NMR). In addition, the absolute configurations of deidaclin and tetraphylin were identified by comparing experimentally and calculated electronic circular dichroism (ECD) analysis methods.
