Summary

Chemical Constituents from the Tuber Root of Stemona tuberosa

Phytochemical investigation of the tuber root of Stemona tuberosa Lour resulted in the isolation of five compounds. They are composed of two alkaloids, a phenolic acid, an anthraquinone, and another unidentified compound. The structures of these compounds were confirmed using spectroscopic methods such as ESI-MS and NMR, and by comparing them with published spectroscopic data. The isolated compounds were identified as tuberostemonine O (1), neotuberostemonine (2), p-hydroxybenzoic acid (3), hydroxymethylfurfural (4), and physcion (5). Among them, compounds 1, 3, and 5 were isolated for the first time from S. tuberosa collected in Vietnam.
