Summary

Chemical Constituents of the Leaves of Plantago major L.

From ethyl acetate and n-butanol extracts of the leaves of Plantago major L., seven compounds (1-7) were isolated. Their chemical structures were identified as 5-(hydroxymethyl)furan-2-carbaldehyde (1), vanillic acid (2), uracil (3), daucosterol (4), baicalein (5), scutellarein-7-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (6) and oct-l-en-3-O-β-D-xylopyranosyl-(1→6)-β-D-glucopyranoside (7), based on spectral data and literature references. Compounds 1, 3, 6, and 7 were isolated from this plant for the first time.
