Summary

Chromone Derivatives from the Agarwood of Aquilaria crassna Pierre ex Lecomte

Agarwood (Aquilaria crassna Pierre ex Lecomte, Thymelaeaceae) has been used in traditional medicine for the treatment of insomnia, anxiety, asthma, cold, analgesic, and digestive disorder in Vietnam. Five compounds were isolated and identified as 6-hydroxy-2-(2-phenylethyl)chromone (1), 6-hydroxy-2-[2-(4'-methoxyphenyl)ethyl]chromone (2), 5-hydroxy-6-methoxy-2-[2-(4'-methoxyphenyl)ethyl]chromone (3), 5-hydroxy-7,3',4'-trimethoxy-flavone (4), and 6-methoxy-2-(2-phenylethyl)chromone (5) from the ethyl acetate fration of agarwood of A. crassna. Their structures were determined by the mean of spectroscopic methods (MS, 1D and 2D NMR). Compounds 2 - 5 were first reported from the agarwood of Aquilaria crassna.
