OF TAXUS WALLICHIANA ZUCC. AND THEIR CYTOTOXIC ACTIVITY

Summary

Diterpenes from the Stem Bark of Taxus wallichiana Zucc. and their Cytotoxic Activity

By various chromatographic methods, seven known diterpenes, including two tricyclic-diterpenes containing a tropone ring (1 and 2) and five 11(15→1)-abeo-taxane diterpenes (37), were isolated from the methanol extract of the stem bark of Taxus wallichiana Zucc. The chemical structures of the isolated compounds were confirmed by ESI−MS, 1D, and 2D NMR as well as by comparison with the literatures. All isolated compounds were tested in vitro for their cytotoxic activity against the HepG2, SK-LU-1, MCF-7, LNCaP, and SK-Mel-2 human cancer cell lines. Among them, compounds 1 and 2 showed cytotoxicity against all tested cancer cell lines, with IC50 values ranging from 17.8 to 61.5 μM.
