Summary

Flavonoids from Ethyl Acetate Fraction of the Whole Plant of Pyrrosia lanceolata (L.) Farw.

The medicinal fern, Pyrrosia lanceolata (L.) Farw. (Polypodiaceae), has been used in folk medicine in Vietnam and Southeast Asia for the treatment of swelling, urocystitis, urinary calculus, bloody urine, coughs, and bronchitis. Five compounds were isolated and identified as vitexin (1), naringenin 7-O-(2-β-D-apiofuranosyl)-β-D-glucopyranoside (2), naringin (3), neoeriocitrin (4), and hypolaetin-7-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (5) from the ethyl acetate fraction of Pyrrosia lanceolata. Their structures were determined by means of spectroscopic methods (MS, 1D and 2D NMR).
