Summary
Formulation of Curcuminoids-Loaded Spray-Dried Nanoemulsifying Delivery System (SNEDS)
Aqueous solubility of curcuminoids is low, which limits the oral bioavailability and clinical application of curcuminoids. This study aimed to overcome this characteristic by formulating of curcuminoids loaded-SNEDS (Spray-dried Nanoemulsifying Delivery System). A formulation of dried oil in water (O/W) nano-emulsion (F3.44) consisting of an oil phase (Capmul PG-8, surfactant of Tween 20 and co-surfactant of alcohol) and distilled water, together with HPC LH21 as a solid carrier was found to be ideal, with mean droplet size of 108.3 nm after dispersion. The F3.44 formulae also showed a significant increase the solubility of curcuminoids in water (up to 2 mg/ml from 0,003mg/ml). The results are promisingly able to apply for other water insoluble compounds.
