Isolation and Quantification of Major Phenolic Acids in the Radix of Boehmeria nivea
Collected in Quang Ngai Province by UPLC/PDA
From the radix of Boehmeria nivea (L.) Gaudich, three major phenolic acids were isolated including protocatechuic acid (1), 4-hydroxybenzoic acid (2), and acid isovanillic (3). An UPLC/PDA method for simultaneous quantification these phenolic acids in the radix B. nivea was also developed. UPLC was performed on an ACQUITY UPLC H-Class system equipped with PDA detector (254 nm) and Phenomenex Gemini C18 (150 mm × 4.6 mm, i.d., 3 mm) connected to an Empower software with mobile phase gradient of acetonitrile (A) and 0.2% formic acid (B). The developed method was validated on its system suitability, specificity, linearity, precision, and accuracy. Results showed the content of protocatechuic acid, 4-hydroxy benzoic acid, and isovanillic acid in the radix of B. nivea collected in Quang ngai province were 0.02%, 0.006% and 0.0042%, respectively.
