Summary

Isolation and Standard Establishment of Astragaloside IV from Radix Astragali membranacei

Astragaloside IV is a marker for the quality control of Radix Astragali membranacei. This herbal is used for tonifying Qi and blood. The study aimed to isolate astragaloside IV from Radix Astragali membranacei by using alkaline hydrolysis method and different chromatography techniques such as thin-layer chromatography, column chromatography and preparative high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The isolated compound was established as a reference standard based on ISO Guide 34 and 35. Astragaloside IV (2.0 g) was isolated from 4.0 kg of Radix Astragali membranacei. The adjust content of astragaloside IV was determined to be 96.74%.
