Summary

Mahonia subimbricata Chun & F. Chun (Berberidaceae),
a Newly Recorded Medicinal Plant Species for the Flora of Vietnam

This study records Mahonia subimbricata Chun & F. Chun (Berberidaceae family) to be supplementary to the Flora of Vietnam. The study was based on the analysis and comparison of the morphological characteristics of species in Mahonia genus in the literature and from the flora of other countries, it differs distinctly from species of Mahonia in Vietnam by having entire apices of petals and less than 20 spinulos-serrulate on each side of margin of leaflet. The stem and root of this medicinal plant are used for treatment of dysentery, hepatitis, cough with lung heat, tuberculosis, red eyes, burns and scalds. This new addition has increased the number of species of Berberidaceae family in Vietnam to 10.
