Summary

Method Development for Quantification of Main Phenolic Compounds from Valeriana hardwickii Wall.

Valeriana hardwickii known as “Nữ lang” is used as a traditional medicine with anti-convulsant, sedative, anti-fatigue, and anti-dysmenorrheal properties. The aim of this study was to establish an Ultra-Performance Liquid Chromatography (UPLC) method for simultaneous determination of polyphenols including chlorogenic acid, rhoifolin, neobudofficide and linarin in Valeriana hardwickii leaves with PDA detector. The chromatography separation of chlorogenic acid, rhoifolin, neobudofficide and linarin was achieved using Aquity UPLC BEH C18 column (1.7 µm; 2.1 × 50 mm) in gradient system mode with a mobile phase of 0.1% formic acid-acetonitrile. The selective and validated analytical method was developed for qualification of polyphenols in V. hardwickii. The yield of chlorogenic acid, rhoifolin, neobudofficide and linarin in leaves were 1.24%; 0.69%; 0.05% and 1.26%; respectively. This is the first report of UPLC-PDA analysis of these polyphenols in V.  hardwickii.
