Summary

Microscopic Characteristics and Essential Oil Composition of Chrysopogon zizanioides (L.) Roberty

Collected in Quang Nam

Vetiver (Chrysopogon zizanioides (L.) Roberty) is a plant belonging to family Poaceae. The roots of this grass on steam distillation yield essential oil called Vetiver oil. This oil was analysed by GC/MS and TLC. Result of GC/MS analysis showed that Cedr-8-en-13-ol, junipene and b - vatirenene were the main constituents of Vetiver oil. The microscopic characteristics of roots of Vertiver was also studied. The most remarkable features were aerenchyma in transverse section of roots and long cells of parenchyma containing granules starch in powder of root. The results provided database to identify pharmacognosy of Vertiver root and oil.
