Summary
Morphological Characteristics of Genus Panax L. in Vietnam
Panax L. is a small genus in the family Araliaceae, distributed in the high mountains in the North and some high mountains in the Central Highland of Vietnam. In traditional medicine, rhizomes of Panax are highly valuable. However, due to deforestation and over-exploitation as well as habitat loss, populations of all the Panax species are seriously declining. The previous study of these species is much controversy and confusion. In this study, we studied on 70 fresh specimens of 5 species and varieties of Panax L. genus. By comparing the morphological characteristics, we realize the distinctive characteristics: rhizome, number of flowers, color and shape of disk flower: rhizome, number of flowers, color and shape of disk flower, style, ovary and seed. Thereby, we have arm the dichotomous identification key to two species and three varieties of the genus Panax L. in Vietnam. Additionally, information of ecology, distributions, their uses and conservation status are also supplied.
