Summary

Nutrient Composition Analysis of Tao meo Fruits (Docynia indica Wall.) in Northern Mountainous Provinces in Vietnam

Tao meo”, had a scientific name as Docynia indica (Wall.) Decne or Pyrus indica (Wall.) belonging to Rosaceae family, which are popular plants growing in northern mountainous provinces in Vietnam. This research analyzed for the first time the nutrient compositions including macronutrients (carbohydrates, proteins, fats, and free sugars including monosaccharides (fructose and glucose), disaccharides (maltose and sucrose), and micronutrients including: vitamin group (vitamin C, B1, B12, and beta-caroten), amino acids, and some essential minerals (calcium, iron and phosphorus) in the Tao meo fruits. The study on Tao meo supplied good scientific evidences in nutritional application. It is notable that Tao meo contains vitamins and minerals with the same contents or even higher than those in some popular nutrient fruits (orange, apple, pear, hawthorn). Thus, Tao meo could be considered as a good source of nutrients, especially for diet.
