Summary

Polyprenylated Acylphloroglucinols from the Fruit Pericarp of Garcinia oblongifolia

and their Cytotoxicity

The paper deals with chromatographic isolation, structural elucidation, and cytotoxic activity of compounds from the pericarp of Garcinia oblongifolia fruit. Four compounds, isogarcinol, oblongifolin A, garcinol, and 1,5-dimethyl citrate were isolated. Standard spectroscopic methods (MS, 1D and 2D NMR) were used in the evaluation of the structures of the four compounds. The SRB cytotoxicity test showed micromolar half-maximal inhibitory concentrations (IC50) of isogarcinol against Hep-G2, HeLa, and Vero cell lines and garcinol against Hep-G2, HeLa, LU-1, and Vero cell lines.
