Summary

Triterpene Glycosides Isolated from Gymnema  sylvestre  (Retz.) R. Br. ex Schult.

From the triterpenoid-rich fraction of Gymnema sylvestre (Retz.) R. Br. Ex Schult., one new compound, 3-O-[β-D-xylopyranosyl(1à6)-β-D-glucopyranosyl(1à6)-β-D-glucopyranosyl] oleanolic acid 28-[β-D-glucopyranosyl(1à6)-β-D-glucopyranosyl]  ester (1), and two known compounds, 3-O-[β-D-xylopyranosyl(1à6)-β-D-glucopyranosyl(1à6)-β-D-glucopyranosyl] oleanolic acid 28-β-D-glucopyranosyl ester (2) and 3-O-[β-D-glucopyranosyl(1à6)-β-D-glucopyranosyl] oleanolic acid 28-[β-D-glucopyranosyl(1à6)-β-D-glucopyranosyl]  ester (3) were isolated. The chemical structure of the new compound was elucidated by the extensive nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), mass spectrometry (MS) and other spectroscopic techniques; while the structures of the two known compounds were verified by comparing their physicochemical and spectroscopic data to published literature.
