Protective Effect of BB1 Formulation Against Sodium Valproate-Induced Hypogonadism
BB1 regimen consists of 2 main herbal constituents (Eurycoma longifolia J. and Polyscias fructicosa). Both plants were identified to exert androgen activity and enhance sexual behavior on rats. This study aimed to evaluate sexual protective effect of BB1 against sodium valproate-induced hypogonadism in rats. The results showed that BB1 with the dose of 0.47g/kg body weight significantly increased sperm density, sperm motility, and rate of living sperm. On morphology of sperms, BB1 formulation increased percentage of normal morphology of sperm, decreased percentage of abnormal in head and tail of sperm. In testes histology, there was recovery development of germ cells from the base to the center of the lumen; spermatogonia, primary and secondary spermatocytes, spermatids, and spermatozoa were seen in the lumen of testes of rats in BB1-treated group.
These results suggest that BB1 with the dose of 0.47g/kg body weight has protective effects on sodium valproate- induced hypogonadism in rats.

Chế phẩm BB1 gồm 2 thành phần chính là bách bệnh và đinh lăng, đã được chứng minh có hoạt tính androgen và tác dụng làm tăng cường hành vi tình dục trên chuột thực nghiệm. Bài báo này nhằm chứng minh tác dụng bảo vệ của chế phẩm BB1 trên chuột bị gây suy sinh dục bằng natri valproat. Kết quả nghiên cứu cho thấy chế phẩm BB1 với liều 0,47 g/kg thể trọng đã làm tăng rõ mật độ, độ di động của tinh trùng cũng như tỷ lệ tinh trùng sống. Trên hình thái tinh trùng, chế phẩm BB1 làm tăng tỷ lệ tinh trùng có hình thái bình thường, giảm tỷ lệ tinh trùng có hình thái bất thường ở đầu và đuôi. Chế phẩm BB1 cũng cải thiện hình thái tinh hoàn, với hình ảnh các ống sinh tinh tái tạo với nhiều dòng tế bào, có các tế bào tiền tinh trùng, tinh trùng trong lòng ống sinh tinh. Kết luận: chế phẩm BB1 với liều 0,47g/kg có tác dụng bảo vệ chuột trước tác nhân gây suy sinh dục là natri valproat.
