Summary
Hepatoprotective effect of lingzhi extract on chronic hepatic toxication by diethylnitrosamine and carbon tetrachloride
Previously, our study showed that lingzhi (Ganoderma lucidum) extract protected hepatic cells from necrosis caused by acute toxication of carbon tetrachloride (CCl4). In the present study, we examined whether the lingzhi extract exerts its hepato-protective effects on chronic hepatic toxication by diethylnitrosamine (DEN) and CCl4 or not. After 16 weeks of toxication by DEN and CCl4, hepatocellular morphology and structure were markedly altered to the pattern resembling hepatocellular hyperplasia. In the groups treated with lingzhi extract 15% and 30%, the liver was partly protected as shown by the inhibition of hyperplastic nodule formation.
