Summary

Two Flavonoids Isolated from the Seeds of Litchi chinensis Sonn. Grown in Vietnam

Phytochemical study on the ethyl acetate-soluble extract of the seed of Litchi chinensisSonn. resulted in the isolation of two astragalin and rutin compounds. The structures were identified on the basis of NMR, MS spectral analysis and in comparison with the published NMR data. This is the first report about chemical constituents of the seeds of Litchi chinensis Sonn. grown in Vietnam.

Keywords: Litchi chinensis Sonn, Flavonoids.

1. Introduction

Over the world, semen litchi (the dry mature seed of  Litchi chinensis Sonn.) have been reported to have many pharmacologic effects including blood glucose, blood lipid modulation, anti - oxidation, anti-virus, anti-tumor, anti-liver injury, as well as  enhancing  insulin sensitivity [3]. In 2010, Xinya Xu               et al. isolated the pumilasid A, funingensin  A compounds which have the inhibitory effect on 4 lines cancer cell A549, LAC, Hela, Hep-G2 [6]. According to an old document published, semen litchi contains α-(methylenecyclopropyl) glycine, an amino acid  hypoglycemic in rats [4]. Recently, our study showed that the extract of 50% ethanol in the litchi seeds were responsible for the hypoglycemic effect on alloxan - diabetic mice [1]

Traditional medicine is used in the treatment of litchi seeds some complications such as tooth pain, testicular pain, painful menstruation or postpartum belly... In Vietnam there is not sufficient research aboutthe chemical composition and pharmacological effects of particles as well as many other parts of litchi fruit. In this report, we present the results of isolated chemical composition of 50% ethanol extract from litchi seeds.
