Ellagic Acid Derivatives from Lagerstroemia speciosa

Lagerstroemia speciosa (L.) Pers. has been widely used in Vietnamese traditional medicine for the treatment of several diseases such as inflammation, obesity, and diabetes. Phytochemical investigation on the methanol extract of aerial parts of Lagerstroemia speciosaled to the isolation of two derivatives of ellagic acid, 2,3,7-tri-O-methylellagic acid (3) and 2,3,8-tri-O-methylellagic acid (4), together with two phytosterols β-sitosterol (1) and 3β-O-β-sitosterol-glucopyranoside (2). Their chemical structures were determined by spectroscopic analyses.
