Summary

New Results from a Study on the Chemical Compositions of Gymnema sylvestre

Chromatographic separation of the extracts from branches and leaves of Gymnema sylvestre led to the isolation of two phytosterols, stigmasterol (1) and stigmasterol-3-O-glucopyranoside (2), along with two triterpenoids, lupeol (3) and 3β-O-cinnamoyl-β-amyrin (4). Their structures were elucidated by ESI-MS and NMR analyses. This is the first report on the presence of these triterpenoids from Gymnema sylvestre.
